Haiti Relief Memo
January 18, 2010

Dear Bozzuto Resident:

The 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti last week has brought devastation and despair that is almost unbearable to conceive. We are lucky indeed to live where we do and to have the resources that afford us such a comfortable life.

For this reason, I invite you to join the employees and principals of The Bozzuto Group in giving what you can to relief efforts helping those so desperately in need. Our company will match $.50 of each dollar our residents and homeowners donate to one of the below charities. Our goal is to raise $20,000 for those suffering in Haiti.

  • Doctors Without Borders: On the fifth day of their response to the disaster in Haiti, the Doctors Without Borders teams on the ground remain focused on trying to cope with the huge demand for lifesaving surgery. Teams are stretching their existing operating theatres to the limit by working around the clock. At the same time, staff are trying to create more capacity by finding new functional facilities, including bringing in an inflatable hospital.

  • UNICEF (make check payable to the "U.S. Fund for UNICEF"): UNICEF continues to ship supplies for survivors of the Haiti earthquake -- airlifted items include 10,000 tarpaulins, 4,600 water containers, 5.5 million water-purification tablets, 556,000 oral rehydration sachets and other supplies to meet the basic needs of up to 10,000 families. Supply shipments for an additional 20,000 families are in the works for the coming days.

  • Oxfam America: Oxfam has more than three decades of experience in Haiti, and has rushed in teams from around the region to respond to the situation where assistance is most needed. The organization is providing clean water, shelter and sanitation, and helping people recover. Oxfam also has an office in Santo Domingo in neighboring Dominican Republic from which emergency materials can be shipped. Donations will go immediately to the most critical needs in Haiti.
Checks made out directly to one of these organizations (no cash or money orders please) can be dropped off to your community’s management office. In order to ensure these organizations promptly receive the funds they so desperately need, please ensure all donations are received by Friday, January 29th.

Together, we can help make a difference in the lives of those who are suffering the most.
